PM-KISAN scheme provides direct financial support to Indian farmers

The Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme continues to provide direct financial assistance to farmers across India. Under this Central Sector Scheme, eligible landholding families receive Rs 6,000 annually, distributed in three installments of Rs 2,000 via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) to their bank accounts.

In Uttar Pradesh, the program serves over 2.2 crore farmers. Recent data indicates that the 23rd installment disbursed Rs 4,352 crore to farmers in the state. Nationally, the scheme has facilitated transfers exceeding Rs 4.46 lakh crore to approximately 9.44 crore farmer families since its inception in 2019.

Beneficiaries in regions such as Nashik, Maharashtra, report that the funds are essential for purchasing seeds, pesticides, and managing other agricultural expenses, reducing the need for high-interest loans. To remain eligible, farmers must maintain updated land records, link bank accounts to Aadhaar numbers, and complete e-KYC verification.
