PM Magyar Péter embroiled in GMO and Samsung plant controversy

Hungarian Prime Minister Magyar Péter defended the use of new genome‑editing techniques in agriculture, arguing that the resulting plants are not GMOs. Environment Minister Gajdos László publicly disagreed, labeling the NGT‑derived plants as GMOs and indicating his ministry may take legal action before the EU Court of Justice.

Earlier, Foreign Minister Szijjártó Péter filed a criminal complaint against Magyar Péter after the prime minister criticised alleged toxic emissions at the Samsung SDI battery plant in Göd. The complaint was later withdrawn, ending the parliamentary discussion on whether the prime minister’s immunity should be lifted.
