PM Modi discusses Somnath and Modhera temples in Mann Ki Baat
During the 138th episode of his ‘Mann Ki Baat’ radio program, Prime Minister Narendra Modi discussed the ‘Somnath Swabhiman Parv’, highlighting India’s historical resilience. He noted that in 1026, the Somnath Temple was destroyed by Mahmud of Ghazni. He also referenced the Modhera Sun Temple in Gujarat, which was attacked and destroyed the same year, only a year after its construction by King Bhimdev I. The Prime Minister emphasized that King Bhimdev I not only resisted the forces but also oversaw the rapid reconstruction of the Modhera temple.
Modi remarked that while historical attempts were made to erase India’s identity through the destruction of such sites, the temples remain symbols of endurance. He highlighted that Modhera has transitioned from a historical site to India’s first ‘solar village’, operating entirely on solar energy.
Additionally, the Prime Minister paid tribute to the late Ashok Singhal, former international working president of the Vishva Hindu Parishad, on his 100th birth anniversary, noting his lifelong dedication to culture and society. He also mentioned the commencement of the census process in Mana village, Uttarakhand, and encouraged citizens to use the online census portal.
