Shehbaz Sharif condemns Houthi attacks and prepares for Trump meeting
Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has expressed complete solidarity with Saudi Arabia following recent Houthi attacks on Saudi civilian and economic infrastructure. In a telephone conversation with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Sharif condemned the strikes, noting they threaten regional security and global energy supplies. The attacks, which included strikes on southern Saudi cities and a drone attack on a vital oil pipeline, have heightened regional tensions.
Separately, Prime Minister Sharif is scheduled to meet US President Donald Trump on September 23 in New York on the sidelines of the 81st United Nations General Assembly. The meeting is expected to take place during a reception hosted by the Trumps at the Lotte New York Palace Hotel.
During his upcoming address to the UN General Assembly on September 25, Sharif is expected to raise several critical issues, including the dispute over the Indus Waters Treaty following India's suspension of the agreement, the Kashmir conflict, and Pakistan's role in promoting Middle East peace and counterterrorism efforts.
