Brazil security forces deploy across regions for 2026 election runoff
Security forces across Brazil have implemented extensive operations to ensure order during the second round of the 2026 elections. In Brasília, the Distrito Federal, a massive deployment includes 5,000 military police officers focused on the central area and the protection of embassies. Authorities have utilized advanced technology, including anti-drone equipment, 15 drones, and body-worn cameras capable of facial recognition, to monitor sensitive areas like the Esplanada dos Ministérios and the Superior Electoral Court (TSE).
In the Vale do Juruá region, over 200 military police officers, supported by the Brazilian Army and Federal Police, are operating across five municipalities. Due to the difficult geography, teams are utilizing boats, planes, and helicopters to reach remote rural, indigenous, and riverside communities. Reports from the region indicate a tranquil voting process compared to the first round.
Other regional operations include the mobilization of over 3,300 agents in Mato Grosso do Sul to monitor the process from voting through the final tally, and the deployment of 1,600 officers in Rondônia. In Rondônia, officials reported a calm scenario with only two recorded occurrences, including a vote secrecy violation in Cacoal.
