PML-N targets two-thirds majority in AJK elections

The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) is positioned to potentially secure a two-thirds majority in the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Legislative Assembly. Adviser to the Prime Minister Rana Sanaullah stated that the party requires only six more seats to reach that threshold following the first two phases of the regional elections.

In the initial phases, the PML-N secured 24 seats, while the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) obtained 10. The third phase of polling is scheduled for August 10 in the Bagh and Haveli districts. The AJK Election Commission has noted that polling dates for the Poonch and Sudhnoti districts will be announced after a situation review, and Rawalakot dates may be set within seven days once ongoing sit-ins are resolved.

During election rallies, Sanaullah criticized the PPP, dismissing allegations of election rigging and addressing comments made by PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari regarding the stability of the federal government. Bhutto-Zardari has suggested that the PML-N government in Islamabad is at risk and has pointed to internal rifts within the Sharif family.
