Pınar Peyman Mersinli detained following school attack appeal

Following the legal appeal by families of the victims of the Ayser Çalık Ortaokulu school attack, Pınar Peyman Mersinli has been detained in Osmaniye.

During the initial hearing of the case in Kahramanmaraş, which involved the deaths of nine students and one teacher, Mersinli—the mother of the attacker İsa Aras Mersinli—was initially released from custody by a majority vote. However, lawyers representing the families of the deceased filed an objection with the Kahramanmaraş 4th High Criminal Court.

The court reviewed the objection and issued a warrant for her arrest, ordering that her detention continue. Mersinli, who was previously released from Kayseri, was subsequently apprehended in Osmaniye.

The indictment seeks punishment for Mersinli on charges of causing the death and injury of multiple people through conscious negligence. The attack at the school resulted in ten fatalities and fifteen injuries.
