PNC Bank Announces 18 Branch Closures and $2 B Expansion Plan

PNC Bank will close 18 of its own branches this summer—14 in Colorado and four in Arizona—following regulatory approval of its $4.1 billion acquisition of FirstBank. The closures are limited to PNC locations; no FirstBank branches will be shut, the bank said. The moves affect employees at the affected sites, with earlier layoffs already announced at PNC’s Lakewood office.

Separately, PNC unveiled a $2 billion, multi‑year program to add roughly 300 new branches and renovate more than 1,200 existing sites by 2030. The 50th new branch opened in Hialeah, Florida, and the bank targets 55 new openings in 2026, the largest single‑year expansion in its history. Head of Retail Banking Alex Overstrom highlighted the strategy as a core part of PNC’s growth across 19 U.S. markets.
