PNC leaders urge Abdulla Yameen to support President Muizzu
Leaders of the People’s National Congress (PNC) have issued strong warnings to former Maldivian President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, urging him to support President Mohamed Muizzu’s administration rather than inciting political unrest.
Speaker of Parliament and PNC Chairperson Abdul Raheem Abdulla dismissed Yameen’s recent suggestions of a ‘silent revolution’ within Parliament, asserting that PNC Members of Parliament remain a unified front behind President Muizzu. Abdulla characterized the current government as having restored justice and stability while managing debts inherited from previous administrations.
Additionally, PNC parliamentary group leader Ibrahim Falah suggested that Yameen faces a choice between supporting the current government or potentially returning to Maafushi Prison. Falah’s remarks come as Yameen remains free following a High Court order for a retrial in the Aarah case. Falah argued that Yameen’s interests would be better served by the Muizzu administration remaining in power through the 2028 election.
