PNG Chiefs target homegrown talent for 2028 NRL debut

The Papua New Guinea Chiefs, the NRL’s 19th franchise set to debut in 2028, are actively integrating homegrown talent through development deals. Current players Gairo Voro and Finley Glare, along with fullback Morea Morea, have already signed development contracts with the club.

Morea Morea, who currently plays for the London Broncos in the English second division, is aiming to secure the Chiefs' fullback position. The club has already completed high-profile signings including Jarome Luai, Brian To’o, Alex Johnston, and Joey Manu.

Player development manager Joey Grima identified Voro, a playmaker from the Abau District, after observing his defensive aggression and game orchestration. Voro, who has also signed with the London Broncos, is noted for his playing style being reminiscent of Jarome Luai.
