PNV leader Aitor Esteban warns of general elections if budgets fail
During the 50th Alderdi Eguna celebration in Foronda, PNV President Aitor Esteban announced that the party will begin its internal process on October 19 to select candidates for upcoming municipal, regional, and general elections. Esteban framed these upcoming contests as a single electoral cycle and a ‘first line of defense’ for Basque interests against potential state interference.
Esteban issued a warning to Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, stating that if the government fails to present the State Budgets, the PNV will demand that the current legislature be ended and general elections be called. The PNV leader emphasized that the party aims to consolidate a strong representation in Madrid to defend Euskadi’s interests and social model.
In local developments, the PNV has named sociologist and businessman Jon Urresti as its candidate for the Mayor of Vitoria. Additionally, Basque Lehendakari Imanol Pradales is set to participate in the Foro La Toja, where he will discuss economic competitiveness and territorial cohesion alongside the presidents of Galicia and Catalonia.
