Po River Near Dryness Leads Green Leader Angelo Bonelli to Call on PM Meloni
During a press conference in Parma province, Angelo Bonelli, leader of the Italian Green party AVS and co‑spokesperson of the European Greens, warned that the Po River is almost dry. He urged Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni to visit the site, citing the climate crisis’s impact on agriculture, rising costs of fruit, vegetables and bread, and the burden on families.
Bonelli called for immediate national political action, criticizing the lack of response to extreme heat, drought and desertification. He noted an upcoming meeting of EU member states on the situation in Ceuta, but argued that the focus should be on the climate emergency affecting Italy.
