Pocheon City Council rejects land exchange plan for former 6th Corps site
The Pocheon City Council has rejected a proposal to exchange municipal land with state-owned land located at the former site of the 6th Corps military installation. The decision came during the final plenary session of the council's 196th regular session.
Council members raised concerns regarding the terms of the exchange, specifically focusing on the long-term usability of the land. Councilwoman Lee Mi-sook urged the city to secure documented conditions regarding access roads for future industrial complexes and to clarify who would bear the costs of road construction. She emphasized that the city must ensure citizens can actually utilize the land once ownership is transferred, rather than just acquiring titles.
The city administration argued that the exchange is necessary to consolidate scattered municipal plots into more usable, contiguous areas to foster regional development. However, the plan failed to pass the vote, with four members voting against it and three in favor. Council Speaker Seo Gwa-seok requested that the administration provide a more objective comparison between the current proposal and alternative methods for securing land access to the military site.
