Płociduga lake refilling floods popular Olsztyn walking route

Heavy rainfall has caused the Płociduga lake, which was drained approximately 200 years ago, to refill and flood a section of the Łynostrada pedestrian and bicycle route in Olsztyn, Poland. The flooding has occurred between Kalinowskiego and Tuwima streets, forcing the temporary closure of this popular tourist attraction during the current season.

While the returning water serves a natural function in the local water retention system, local officials have expressed concern regarding the impact on tourism and public safety. Councilor Mirosław Arczak has suggested two potential infrastructure solutions to prevent future closures: constructing a system of walkways over the flooded section or raising the path's surface and building embankments with culverts. The land in question is owned by the University of Warmia and Mazury.
