Pocketpair fans urge studio to acquire Mass Effect rights
Following reports that BioWare will close and development on the next Mass Effect project will end, fans have approached Pocketpair, the developer of Palworld, requesting that the company purchase the Mass Effect intellectual property from Electronic Arts (EA).
John “Bucky” Buckley, Pocketpair’s head of communications and publishing, reported receiving nearly 30 direct messages and emails regarding the acquisition in a single day. Buckley noted that such requests are common after studio closures or project cancellations, as fans often look to successful companies to rescue beloved franchises.
However, Buckley highlighted the significant difficulties involved in such transactions. He stated that intellectual property holders often have no interest in selling, and when they do, the asking prices are frequently “absurd” compared to the actual value. He added that negotiations cannot proceed without the cooperation of the original rights holders.
