Pocrov Skete celebrates the Protection of the Mother of God
The Pocrov Skete, located near the Neamț Monastery, recently celebrated the feast of the Protection of the Mother of God (Acoperământul Maicii Domnului). Numerous faithful and pilgrims from various localities gathered at the monastic settlement to participate in the Holy Liturgy.
The service was conducted at the summer altar by Archimandrite Benedict Sauciuc, abbot of the Neamț Monastery, accompanied by a group of priests and monks. During his sermon, Archimandrite Sauciuc emphasized the connection between honoring the Mother of God and maintaining the right faith, highlighting her role in the lives of Christians through intercession and protection.
The feast, also known in folk tradition as 'Pocroave', carries deep historical and cultural roots. It marks the transition into the colder season and is traditionally associated with the covering of the earth by frost or snow. In the Christian tradition, the day honors the Mother of God, serving as a significant spiritual milestone at the beginning of the church year.
