Podcast hosts drive 82% of listener loyalty, study finds
A study titled ‘The Podcast Study 2026’, conducted by Point-To-Point Marketing and Strategic Solutions Research, reveals that the host is a decisive factor for 82% of podcast listeners. The research, which surveyed 2,205 consumers in the United States and was sponsored by Crooked Media, NPR, and PRX, highlights that the relationship with the presenter significantly impacts audience retention and brand loyalty.
Key findings indicate that 56% of respondents would likely stop listening if their favorite host permanently left a program, while 78% would continue listening occasionally if the absence were only temporary. Additionally, 45% of listeners are motivated to try new shows based on an existing appreciation for a specific host.
The study also underscores the influence of hosts on advertising effectiveness. Approximately 57% of listeners recall a brand more easily when recommended by a host, and 40% are inclined to purchase a product following a personal endorsement from a host, compared to 27% for pre-recorded advertisements.
