PODEMOS denies reports of bank account freeze in Mozambique
The Mozambican political party PODEMOS has issued a statement denying reports that its bank accounts were frozen by the Maputo Judicial Court due to non-compliance with a court order. Party president Albino Forquilha stated that the organization learned of the alleged freeze through social media and local news rather than through formal legal notification.
The party clarified that the legal dispute involves the Associação Solidariedade Cívica de Moçambique (SCM). The conflict stems from a March 2024 memorandum of understanding intended to support PODEMOS's political activities through the joint mobilization of human and financial resources.
Disagreements arose following elections regarding the interpretation of the agreement and the sharing of resources. PODEMOS maintains that the financial clauses pertained strictly to funds raised by the organizations themselves, such as membership dues and donations, and did not involve state resources. The party described the current legal action as a precautionary measure and affirmed its commitment to respecting all judicial decisions once formally notified.
