Poder Ciudadano warns of corruption and transparency decline in Argentina

During the annual dinner of the organization Poder Ciudadano, President Martín D'Alessandro criticized the administration of Javier Milei, warning of a decline in transparency and institutional controls. D'Alessandro stated that Argentina has seen a regression in anti-corruption efforts over the last six years, noting that the country currently ranks 104th out of 182 countries in Transparency International’s Corruption Perceptions Index.

Specific criticisms included the reduction of courts capable of investigating official corruption and the “fiscal innocence” project, which D'Alessandro argued could allow public officials to launder undeclared funds without explanation. He also raised concerns regarding proposed political reforms, specifically the lifting of limits on campaign donations and the authorization of unregulated parallel campaigns.

Additionally, the speech addressed increased spending in intelligence agencies without accountability and criticized delays regarding investigations into the enrichment of public officials. The event was attended by various judicial figures, including judges from the Criminal Cassation Chamber and federal prosecutors.
