Poder Ciudadano warns of institutional decline in Argentina
During the annual dinner of the organization Poder Ciudadano, President Martín D’Alessandro warned of a decline in institutional transparency in Argentina. He argued that current government policies appear to be expanding impunity rather than combating it.
D’Alessandro highlighted several areas of concern, including the state of federal courts responsible for investigating public corruption and a recent tax amnesty law that he claimed could allow officials to launder undeclared funds without explanation. He also criticized increased funding for intelligence agencies lacking accountability and initiatives to lift limits on private campaign donations.
Regarding economic policy, D’Alessandro noted that while excessive regulation creates corruption opportunities, deregulation without oversight can exploit state weakness. He cited OECD data showing that Argentina ranked last among major Latin American economies in receiving foreign direct investment in 2025.
