Podgorica authorities sanction scooter riders and parents

Since the implementation of new regulations for electric scooters in Montenegro, authorities in Podgorica have sanctioned 15 scooter riders and nine parents or guardians. The nine sanctioned riders were minors, and the nine parents were penalized for allowing children to operate the electric vehicles.

Dalibor Baltić of the Police Administration stated that while officers initially issued warnings, they have transitioned to active enforcement. Common violations included operating scooters on roadways where speed limits exceed 30 or 50 kilometers per hour. Fines for these infractions are set at 150 euros for both the riders and the guardians.

Baltić noted that two traffic accidents involving electric scooters have been recorded in Podgorica over the last month. He explained that previous legal ambiguities regarding the classification of these vehicles have been resolved through legislative changes, allowing police to process scooter users under the same rules as other drivers. The police intend to continue daily targeted inspections, with a specific focus on areas near primary schools.
