Podgorica begins Sitnica riverbed cleaning to prevent flooding
Authorities in Podgorica have launched a project to clean the Sitnica riverbed to protect the Lješkopolje region from flooding. The current phase of work covers a three-kilometer stretch from Komansko to the Blue Bridge and is expected to be completed within 30 days.
Podgorica Mayor Saša Mujović stated that the initiative aims to prevent damage to citizens' property and lives by improving water flow. The project involves the municipal company Deponija, utilizing heavy machinery such as spider excavators and bulldozers to remove sediment, debris, and vegetation.
Following the completion of this section, officials indicated that work may extend toward the Bers Bridge area based on resident concerns and local feedback. Additionally, preparations are underway to begin cleaning the Perućica river, a branch of the Savin potok, once administrative paperwork is finalized.
