Podgorica: CGO demands investigation into police assault

The Center for Civic Education (CGO) is calling for an urgent, thorough, and transparent investigation following a video recording of a police officer physically assaulting an individual in front of the ‘Limenka’ building in Podgorica.

CGO coordinator Miloš Knežević highlighted that the incident was particularly concerning because a woman intervening to protect the individual—who has autism—was ignored by the officer. The organization stated that police authority is not a license for violence or a tool to discipline citizens exercising their rights.

CGO has requested that the Police Administration and the Internal Control Department investigate whether there was an abuse of authority or illegal use of force. They have also called upon the Basic State Prosecutor's Office in Podgorica to examine potential criminal elements and ensure that any sanctions are effective rather than merely symbolic.
