Balkan infrastructure: Major road and rail projects advance in Montenegro and Bosnia

Various infrastructure projects are underway across Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina. In Montenegro, the EBRD has approved a loan of up to 50 million euros for the reconstruction of the Golubovci–Bar railway, a project with a total estimated value of 225.6 million euros. Additionally, roadwork has been completed on the Nikšić–Plužine route, and the Pljevlja Coal Mine is rehabilitating the Glibaći–Bobovo road to improve winter accessibility. In Podgorica, efforts include creating temporary parking in Baston and cleaning the Sitnica riverbed to prevent flooding.

In Bosnia and Herzegovina, a major highway project connecting Mostar to the Croatian border is progressing. This highway, valued at approximately 1 billion KM, aims to link the industrial hubs of Široki Brijeg, Grude, and Posušje to the EU market. Local companies have been awarded contracts worth 180 million KM for sections of this route. Meanwhile, construction continues on the Corridor Vc motorway, specifically focusing on the Zenica tunnel to improve connectivity between northern and central Bosnia.
