Podgorica councilor criticizes reliance on parking fines

Miodrag Đuranović, a councilor for the URA Civil Movement in the Podgorica Assembly, has stated that the number of parking fines issued should not be used as a measure of successful municipal policy. While welcoming the recent efforts to introduce traffic order and address long-standing illegal parking issues in Podgorica, Đuranović emphasized that the goal should be organized traffic and adequate parking conditions rather than maximizing fine revenue.

Đuranović noted that during the first month of the new regulations, approximately 4,500 fines were issued, totaling around 450,000 euros. He questioned what alternatives the city administration is providing to citizens, such as the construction of new parking lots and garages. He also called for the city to apply the same rules to its own administration, specifically regarding the use of official vehicles, and urged the establishment of functional delivery zones for businesses to prevent new logistical problems.
