Podgorica councilor proposes mandatory tree planting for developers
Miloš Đuričković, a councilor from the European Alliance, has submitted a proposal to the Podgorica City Assembly to mandate tree planting for new construction projects. The proposed rule would require developers to plant at least one formed tree, at least four years old, for every 20 square meters of gross construction area.
Đuričković argued that the initiative aims to combat rising urban temperatures in Podgorica, where summer heat often makes outdoor life difficult. He stated that the goal is to ensure that the growth of concrete is matched by the growth of greenery, treating trees as essential urban infrastructure rather than mere decoration. The proposal seeks to transform private investment into public value by promoting socially responsible urban development.
