Podgorica mayor faces resignation calls as assembly president steps down

Jelena Borovinić Bojović resigned as president of the City Assembly of Podgorica, stating that the current ruling coalition no longer holds a parliamentary majority, legitimacy or political stability to govern the capital. Opposition leader Miloš Mašković of the European Alliance said the resignation confirms the opposition’s warning of an institutional crisis, accusing the ruling parties of blocking city work, misusing public resources and undermining democratic standards. He called for mayor Saša Mujović to submit his resignation as well, arguing that the administration lacks the capacity to function. Mašković also alleged that the coalition was formed through electoral fraud after the 2024 elections, further destabilising Podgorica’s governance.
