Podgorica police arrest two after illegal botox injections hospitalize women

Authorities in Podgorica have arrested two individuals following the hospitalization of several women due to complications from illegal aesthetic treatments. The victims were treated at the Clinical Center of Montenegro (KCCG) after being injected with a suspected counterfeit botulinum toxin, potentially falsely labeled as Dysport.

Police have detained 44-year-old Ukrainian citizen Yulia Kushnereva on suspicion of practicing medicine without authorization and committing serious crimes against human health. She is also being investigated for the harm caused to at least three women. Additionally, 41-year-old Montenegrin citizen Dražen Lakićević was arrested on charges of illegal trade, as well as the production and distribution of harmful products. He is suspected of supplying the fraudulent toxin.

The Ministry of Health confirmed that sanitary and health inspections, in coordination with the police, have shut down the facility where the anti-age and aesthetic services were being provided outside of a registered medical institution. The facility lacked the necessary sanitary permits and compliance with hygiene standards. The investigation is ongoing under the direction of the Basic State Prosecutor's Office in Podgorica.
