Podgorica selects design for Zabjelo community centre

The capital of Montenegro, Podgorica, announced the results of an international competition for the concept design of a new community centre in the rapidly growing Zabjelo neighbourhood. The first prize of €35,000 was awarded to Arnel Smajlović and Enna Hadžić Smajlović from Bosnia and Herzegovina. The second prize of €20,000 went to the Argentine team SHARED GROUND (Maria Emilia Darricades, Juan Ignacio Miñones, Fernando Nicolas Sabando). The third prize of €12,000 was given to Alejandro Cuadro from Uruguay and his collaborators. Three Serbian teams each received equal purchase awards of €3,000. A special commendation was presented to Mikael Tristan Arista of Indonesia for originality.

The jury praised the winning solution as a solid basis for further development, recommending attention to the health‑house layout, user flow separation, public and green spaces, technical feasibility and long‑term maintenance.

The competition was conducted as an open, anonymous international call aimed at creating a modern centre that combines health, administrative, cultural, educational and social functions for Zabjelo residents.
