Podgorica selects winning design for Gorica forest park revitalization

The City of Podgorica has announced the winner of an international competition for the revitalization of the Gorica forest park natural monument. The first prize was awarded to the project titled “Gorica – The Living Landmark,” created by a Croatian design team consisting of Alen Žunić, Petra Vlahek, and Ines Žunić.

The winning concept focuses on three thematic pillars: Nature, People, and Heritage. The plan aims to treat Gorica as a living ecosystem and a vital component of the city’s green infrastructure. Key elements of the proposal include the restoration of vegetation on degraded or burned areas, the preservation of existing forest stands, and the enhancement of biodiversity through the development of native vegetation.

In addition to ecological restoration, the design integrates public spaces, pedestrian and recreational paths, and educational content. The project also features a modern digital orientation system for visitors and a spatial landmark on the upper plateau designed to blend with the natural environment while supporting local biodiversity. The proposal includes an integrated approach to atmospheric water management through retention, infiltration, and reuse.
