Podhale Nowy Targ loses 1:10 to GKS Tychy in league opener

The Tauron Hokej Liga season has commenced with Podhale Nowy Targ suffering a heavy 1:10 away defeat against the defending champions, GKS Tychy. Despite an early opportunity to equalize via a penalty kick, Podhale struggled to contain the experience and depth of the Tychy squad.

Polish Ice Hockey Federation (PZHL) President Krzysztof Woźniak noted that the league has expanded to ten teams this season, bolstered by the return of Podhale Nowy Targ and the formation of a Polish-led STS Sanok. To encourage domestic talent, the PZHL will provide financial rewards to clubs that utilize the highest number of Polish players under the age of 23 by the end of the regular season. All clubs are required to maintain a minimum limit of 10 Polish players.
