Podiatry experts recommend foot health checkups during autumn

Medical specialists from the Foot Biomechanics Unit at Hospital Vithas Valencia 9 de Octubre advise conducting podiatric reviews during the autumn months. This recommendation follows the summer season, during which feet are often subjected to heat, humidity, and increased physical activity.

Experts note that the use of open footwear with less support, combined with prolonged exposure to sand and water, can lead to skin and nail infections, joint discomfort, and biomechanical alterations. Many patients report pain in the heel, sole, or forefoot that manifests several weeks after the holiday period ends.

Additionally, foot care is being integrated into wellness routines through practices like foot reflexology. While reflexology uses pressure on specific points to promote relaxation and reduce tension, scientific evidence regarding its ability to treat specific diseases remains limited. A review in the journal Advances in Integrative Medicine noted that many studies on the practice lack high-quality methodological evidence.
