Požega Diocese celebrates 29th anniversary and ordains new deacons

The Požega Diocese celebrated its Diocesan Day on September 26, 2026, marking the 29th anniversary of the diocese's establishment. The event brought together various members of the local Church, including clergy, religious sisters, theologians, and lay pastoral leaders.

A central highlight of the celebration was the ordination of Luka Barišić and Krunoslav Crkvenac to the diaconate by Bishop Ivo Martinović. During the ceremony, Bishop Martinović emphasized the nature of Christian service, noting that the role of a deacon is defined by being a servant rather than seeking social influence or career advancement.

The program included reflections on the Eucharist, with Fra Milan Gelo discussing the connection between the sacrament and the unity of the Church, referencing Pope John Paul II's encyclical ‘Ecclesia de Eucharistia’. Bishop Martinović also encouraged the faithful to reflect on their mission and their relationship with God as they approach the diocese's 30th anniversary.
