Požega expressway construction progresses with tunnel works

Construction is underway on the Požega (Brestovac) – Staro Petrovo Selo expressway, a major Croatian infrastructure project valued at approximately 200 million euros. The project aims to connect Požega and the Požega valley directly to the A3 motorway.

The works include roughly 16 kilometers of road, a 1,600-meter tunnel, five viaducts, and two bridges. Due to challenging geological conditions, tunnel excavation is currently progressing at a rate of about two meters per day. To accelerate the timeline, Hrvatske ceste plans to begin excavation from both sides of the tunnel, which could reduce the remaining work from 800 days to approximately 1.5 years.

Approximately 200 Chinese workers are participating in the construction. The project is expected to be completed by 2029.
