Poggibonsi residents hold flashmob marking five years without Bellavista Bridge

Residents, local businesses, and associations in Poggibonsi are organizing a symbolic flashmob to mark the fifth anniversary of the Bellavista Bridge closure. The bridge, which was 150 meters long, has been inaccessible since September 25, 2021.

The event, titled “Da una sponda all’altra” (From one bank to the other), is promoted by the Comitato Indipendente Bellavista. It is designed as a non-political community gathering to highlight how the lack of connection affects the daily lives of citizens and local economic activities in areas such as Bellavista, Staggia Senese, Pini, and others.

The flashmob will involve two groups starting from different sides—the Bellavista bank and the Poggibonsi-Staggia cycle path—walking approximately 3-4 kilometers each to meet beneath the bridge. Organizers expressed concern that the ongoing disconnection could weaken local hamlets by reducing the flow of people and impacting essential community services. Despite recent approvals of an executive project, there is currently no confirmed start date or timeline for the reconstruction of the bridge.
