Poggibonsi-Siena railway upgrade faces calls for clear timelines

Simone Bezzini, the Democratic Party group leader in the Regional Council, has filed an inquiry requesting that the regional government press Rete Ferroviaria Italiana (RFI) for a definitive timeline regarding the Poggibonsi-Siena railway line upgrade.

Currently, two main hypotheses are being studied: one involving specific targeted improvements to the existing line, and a more structural option involving the doubling of the tracks. Despite a framework agreement being in place for four years, a clear schedule for completing the Feasibility Study of Project Alternatives (DOCFAP) and its subsequent submission to the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport has not yet been established.

Bezzini emphasized that doubling the Poggibonsi-Siena line is a significant prospect for overcoming current infrastructural limitations and strengthening the entire Siena-Empoli-Florence corridor. He is seeking clarity on the procedural steps, financial planning, and the expected completion dates for the study.
