Pohang city and Samdo launch 100 rent‑free housing units
Pohang市 and local construction firm Samdo Co. signed a social‑contribution private rental housing agreement on 29 May. The deal designates 100 of the 934 units being built in Uhwondong, North District, as rent‑free for ten years, targeting large families and newly‑married couples.
Under the pact Samdo will oversee the entire process – from planning, design and construction to resident recruitment, lease contracts, management and operation. Pohang市 will provide administrative support and guidance but will not bear direct fiscal costs. Mayor Park Yong‑seon said the initiative will markedly lower housing‑cost burdens and expand welfare for vulnerable residents, while Samdo chairman Heo Sang‑ho pledged the company’s full commitment to the project’s supply and operation.
The agreement is presented as a new public‑private cooperation model linking corporate social contribution with local housing welfare, aiming to improve housing stability for the city’s most vulnerable groups.
