Pohang City Council reviews bridge construction and local policy issues
The Pohang City Council concluded its 334th regular session, addressing several critical regional issues during its first administrative inquiry. A primary focus was the Yeongilman Cross-Sea Bridge project, which has faced an 18-year delay. Council members questioned the status of the Korea Development Institute (KDI) review, specifically regarding a proposed inland detour route. Mayor Park Yong-sun stated that the city is requesting the removal of the inland route from being labeled an “optimal alternative,” arguing it does not meet the project's purpose.
Other key discussions included support measures for the Guryongpo memorial park and the status of a promised Costco location in the area. Council members also raised concerns regarding the appointment of a policy advisor, the fairness of personnel appointments for the audit officer, and environmental issues such as dust and odors near the Pohang National Industrial Complex.
The session concluded with the processing of 28 items, including budget approvals and the adoption of administrative audit reports. The council also called for a thorough investigation into allegations of data leaks during the information request process.
