Pohang City Council suspends councilor and passes regional development resolutions
The Pohang City Council has concluded its 333rd extraordinary session with several key legislative actions and disciplinary measures.
City Councilor Moon Seong-ho of the Democratic Party was issued a 10-day suspension from all official duties, including plenary and standing committee meetings, following allegations of physical assault against a colleague. The council approved the disciplinary measure with 18 votes in favor and 11 against. The incident occurred in July during a dispute involving Councilor Kim Jong-ik of the People Power Party, who alleged he sustained injuries. Moon had previously maintained that the contact was unintentional.
Additionally, the council adopted two resolutions aimed at regional development. These include a call for the strategic relocation of public institutions to Pohang to bolster national balanced development and a demand for the swift implementation of regional industrial electricity rate systems. The council also urged POSCO management and labor to engage in cooperative dialogue to support the local economy. The session concluded with the passage of various ordinances and budget amendments.
