Pohang City to pay 1.178 billion won in military noise compensation

Pohang City announced that it will distribute a total of 1.178 billion won in military noise compensation to 3,876 residents living near the K-3 Airfield and military shooting ranges by the 31st of this month.

The compensation targets residents in designated noise mitigation areas, including parts of Ocheon-eup, Donghae-myeon, Cheongnim-dong, and Jecheol-dong in Nam-gu, as well as parts of Janggi-myeon in Nam-gu and Heunghae-eup in Buk-gu. To qualify, residents must have been registered and living in these areas between January 1, 2021, and December 31, 2025.

Payments are categorized into three levels based on noise impact: 60,000 won per month (Type 1), 45,000 won (Type 2), and 30,000 won (Type 3). For those near the airfield, amounts are calculated based on days of residence, while those near shooting ranges are compensated based on actual monthly shooting days. Residents who missed this period can apply retroactively within a five-year statute of limitations or during the next application window in January or February of next year.
