Pohang opens RIST Advanced Manufacturing Incubating Center

On 22 May, the RIST Advanced Manufacturing Incubating Center was inaugurated in Pohang, South Korea. The hub was jointly established by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, Gyeongsangbuk‑do province, Pohang city, the Pohang Institute of Science & Technology (RIST) and the POSCO Group.

The centre provides start‑ups in advanced manufacturing with factory‑type premises, clean‑rooms and hands‑on technical assistance, including process design, testing, reliability evaluation and scale‑up engineering from RIST, as well as investment and overseas‑expansion support from POSCO. Current resident firms work on battery‑recycling, high‑temperature water‑electrolysis stacks, distributed‑energy control solutions and eco‑friendly packaging materials. The programme aims to nurture up to ten companies each year, offering a flexible three‑to‑five‑year graduation system to continuously attract and develop promising manufacturing ventures.

The initiative is intended to bridge the gap between laboratory‑scale technology and mass production, helping regional start‑ups settle locally and expand into global markets.
