Point Dume Beach Access Closed Indefinitely Over Extreme Erosion

Los Angeles County closed the main vehicle access road, Westward Beach Road, the 373‑spot parking lot and three restrooms at Point Dume Beach in Malibu after high tides and surf caused extreme coastal erosion. The Department of Beaches & Harbors warned that the bluff edge is unstable, with drop‑offs of up to eight feet, and urged visitors not to cross safety cones or barriers. Temporary chemical toilets and hand‑washing stations were installed while the county assesses damage. No reopening date has been set. The California Highway Patrol issued a SigAlert shutting the road at Birdview Avenue, and officials noted that recent erosion follows earlier damage from the January 2025 Palisades Fire. County and state officials, including staff of Governor Gavin Newsom, have met with Caltrans to discuss further coastal protection measures.
