Point Pedro Hospital begins Rs. 212 Mn nurses’ quarters project
Minister of Health Nalinda Jayatissa has launched a Rs. 212 million project to construct a four-storey nurses’ quarters complex at the Point Pedro Base Hospital. Funded by the Northern Provincial Council, the facility is intended to provide secure residential accommodation for approximately 50 nursing staff members. Construction is expected to be finished by July next year.
The initiative is part of a broader health infrastructure development program in Sri Lanka’s Northern Province, with total investments exceeding Rs. 1,000 million. Other regional projects include a cardiac treatment unit in Trincomalee, a medical wards complex in Mullaitivu, and an emergency treatment unit at the Mannar District General Hospital, which received funding support from the Indian government.
To further bolster the regional health sector, Minister Jayatissa announced the recruitment of 350 health assistants for Northern hospitals.
