Point Reyes Lighthouse offers free housing for volunteers

The U.S. National Park Service is seeking volunteers for a unique residency at the historic Point Reyes Lighthouse in California. The position offers free accommodation in the 150-year-old landmark, located near the Pacific Ocean, in exchange for 30 hours of work per week.

The volunteer role is scheduled for the winter season, running from November 6, 2026, to February 1, 2027. Duties include welcoming visitors, conducting educational presentations about the lighthouse, providing information on local wildlife and the natural environment, and assisting with the general operation of the site.

Candidates must be prepared for challenging environmental conditions, including cold temperatures, strong winds, high humidity, dense fog, and the physical demand of climbing 313 stairs.
