Point Reyes Lighthouse volunteer offer draws massive response

The U.S. National Park Service (NPS) recently issued a call for a residential volunteer at Point Reyes National Seashore in Marin County, California. The position, scheduled to run from November 6, 2026, to February 1, 2027, requires a 30-hour weekly commitment. In exchange for their service, the selected volunteer would receive rent-free accommodation and certain included services.

The opportunity generated such high interest that applications had to be closed early due to a massive influx of candidates. The primary draw is the historic Point Reyes Lighthouse, a structure built in 1870 that served as a vital navigation aid for over a century before being replaced by an automated light in 1975. The site is now a preserved part of the national seashore's maritime heritage.
