Pointe-Lebel fatal collision: Coroner report cites speed and intoxication

A coroner's report has released details regarding the fatal collision in Pointe-Lebel that claimed the life of 31-year-old Mathieu Allard-Lepage on May 23, 2026. The report, authored by Dr. Marie-Ève Morisset, identifies high speed and intoxication as primary factors in the incident.

According to the findings, Allard-Lepage was driving while heavily intoxicated after consuming alcohol earlier in the evening. Following a driving maneuver in Baie-Comeau, officers from the Sûreté du Québec attempted to intercept his vehicle. The driver fled the police, and surveillance footage later showed the vehicle reaching speeds of approximately 159 km/h on Garnier Street in Pointe-Lebel.

The driver lost control of the vehicle, which rolled several times before striking the roof of a residence. Allard-Lepage, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was transported to Le Royer Hospital in Baie-Comeau, where he was pronounced dead. Toxicological analysis revealed a blood alcohol level of 280 mg/100 ml—three and a half times the legal limit—as well as the presence of methamphetamine and THC.
