Poison discography analyzed through the lens of the glam metal era

A retrospective ranking of the discography of the band Poison examines the evolution of the group as a representative archetype of the glam metal movement. The band achieved significant success with early albums such as 1986's Look What the Cat Dragged In, 1988's Open Up and Say . . . Ahh!, and 1990's Flesh & Blood, which featured pop-metal anthems and power ballads.

The band's trajectory shifted in the 1990s following the departure of guitarist C. C. DeVille after the 1991 MTV Video Music Awards. During this period, the group released Native Tongue in 1993 with Richie Kotzen on guitar, navigating a musical landscape increasingly dominated by grunge and alternative rock. Subsequent releases included the 2000 album Crack a Smile . . . and More ! and the 2002 return of DeVille for Hollyweird. The band's most recent studio effort, the 2007 covers album Poison'd!, completes a catalog that spans from multi-platinum successes to experimental phases.
