Poitiers sports recycling association Sauve ton sport shuts its recycling centre

The non‑profit association Sauve ton sport closed its recycling centre on 31 July 2026 after being forced to leave its premises on the route de Parthenay in Poitiers. The organisation, which collects, repairs and redistributes used sports equipment, cited a lack of municipal subsidies for 2026 and the end of a private grant received in 2023‑24 as the main reasons for the shutdown.

During 2025 the centre handled about 30 tonnes of equipment, but its 100 m² space was insufficient and the association could not afford a new lease. President Damien Bettinelli appealed to the city for an emergency grant or a new location; the Poitiers municipality said the request is under review with no decision yet made. Despite losing its physical shop, Sauve ton sport plans to continue its awareness programmes and to support local clubs such as Stade Poitevin Hockey and PB86 in their ecological transition and equipment donation efforts.
