Pokémon franchise expands through new games and Polaroid collaboration
The Pokémon franchise continues to expand its reach across multiple media and hardware platforms. In the gaming sector, Pokémon Legends: Z-A has achieved strong sales, moving 5.8 million copies on Switch and Switch 2 within its first week. Additionally, the life-simulation title Pokémon Pokopia has seen significant success on Switch 2, selling 2.2 million copies and impacting Nintendo's stock value in Tokyo.
Mobile gaming remains a core pillar through Pokémon GO, which maintains a high daily active user base despite geographic and accessibility limitations. The franchise is also diversifying into physical consumer goods through a new collaboration with Polaroid. This partnership features special edition analog cameras, including the Polaroid Now Generation 3 in Poké Ball colors, and the compact Polaroid Go in Pikachu and Sylveon designs. The collection is rounded out with themed film rolls, custom camera accessories, and protective cases.
Beyond traditional gaming and photography, the brand is exploring new genres, including an action RPG project that deviates from the standard monster-catching formula.
