Belgian competitive player Rune Heiremans, 19, secured fifth place at the Pokémon Trading Card Game World Championships held in San Francisco. Heiremans, who began playing at age ten, competed with a custom 60-card deck in his seventh appearance at the global tournament.

In related franchise news, a crossover event is set for the Pokémon anime series, Pokémon Horizons. An upcoming episode scheduled for release in Japan on September 18 will feature Professor Willow, a character from the mobile game Pokémon Go, making his anime debut alongside his partner Pokémon, Meltan. The episode will also include references to in-game elements such as PokéStops and the Pokémon Kecleon.
